Top FastPass+ Picks @ Disney's Animal Kingdom

When it comes to planning your magical Walt Disney World Vacation, your Disney specialized travel agent will ask you which FastPass+ Reservations you would like to make 60 days ahead of time!  Now, I know what you're thinking, how could you possibly know what your family will want to ride 2 months before you travel???

As we plan out your FastPass+ picks, the age group of your family comes into play here.  We want to ensure that your family can enjoy the attractions that they want to.  At the Animal Kingdom, there are no tiers at play (check out the blog posts on Disney's Hollywood Studios and EPCOT for more information on FastPass+ Tiers).  Without tiers, planning can be a struggle, but also can help to ensure that you get reservations for the top attractions!  There are currently 9 attractions at the Magic Kingdom to choose from.

So, we have compiled a list of the top 5 FastPass+ picks at Disney's Animal Kingdom, check them out below!

5.  Meet Favorite Disney Pals at Adventurers Outpost

Here is an attraction where you can meet with Minnie and Mickey in the Safari gear as they prepare for their next voyage around the world!  The average wait time can be about 30 minutes, so not a very important attraction to get a FastPass+ for, but with little ones, it's an easier wait.

4.  DINOSAUR

  • This attraction is popular, but not as popular as some of the other attractions.  If you're at the park early (within the frist 2 hours), head over to DINOSAUR and it's a pretty short wait on standby.  The DINOSAUR attraction is inside The Dino Institute in Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park where there is evidence from scientists and students who have tried to unravel the biggest mystery in the history of our planet: what happened to the dinosaurs?

3.  Kilimanjaro Safaris

Kilimanjaro Safaris is one of the most popular attractions and it closely replicates the feeling of being on an actual African photo safari. Traveling on open safari vehicles through over 100 acres of wild terrain, you'll feel as if you really have traveled onto real African landscape. In alphabetical order, you’ll see antelope, baboons, black rhinos, cheetahs, crocodiles, elephants, flamingos, gazelle, giraffes, hippopotamus, lions, okapis, ostriches, warthogs, white rhinos, wildebeests, zebras and more. Lines for this attraction can easily be 45 minutes!  If you get there early, get on right away!  A lot of times, we have ridden 2-3 times within the first hour of the park's opening and the ride is NEVER the same as all the animals freely move about.

2.  Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

Expedition Everest is the highest "mountain" at Walt Disney world, reaching 200 feet. Your expedition begins inside a Tibetan-style stone structure at the base of Mt. Everest, where you'll pass the booking office of Himalayan Escapes – Tours and Expeditions.

You will board a train that will take you on a ride through the safe, rolling hills, before taking you inside the dangerous mountain. Get ready and hold on tight, because soon enough you'll encounter a broken track that leads to nowhere-- where will the train go next? Backwards might be your only way to safety. Beware of the snarling beast that watches over his domain…the Yeti!

Expedition Everest is one of the most popular rides at Animal Kingdom, but the single rider line makes the wait time a little more bearable if you're willing to ride alone.  The regular queue can easily reach 60 minutes or more depending on the day, so a FastPass+ reservation is a must.

1.  Kali River Rapids

Kali River Rapids is an unguided raft trip down the artificial Chakranadi River. You'll begin your adventure by walking through a centuries-old temple and a small shop selling hand-crafted wares. Once you enter the boathouse of Kali Rapids Expeditions, you'll step onto your raft, where the thrills await. The whitewater journey starts with a 90-foot ascent past a lush jungle. Then you’ll drop into the gushing geysers and drift under waterfalls. After you cover some choppy waters, you’ll pass debris left behind by illegal loggers and even see a few fires blazing through the landscape.  As you can imagine, the wait time for this attraction, especially in the hotter summer months, can get very long!  Just be prepared!  The warnings, "You will get wet, you MAY get soaked", does not lie!

Top FastPass+ Picks @ EPCOT

When it comes to planning your magical Walt Disney World Vacation, your Disney specialized travel agent will ask you which FastPass+ Reservations you would like to make 60 days ahead of time!  Now, I know what you're thinking, how could you possibly know what your family will want to ride 2 months before you travel???

As we plan out your FastPass+ picks, the age group of your family comes into play here.  We want to ensure that your family can enjoy the attractions that they want to.  At EPCOT, the FastPass+ options are in 2 tiers.  You can choose 1 attraction from Tier 1 and 2 attractions from Tier 2. There are 13 attractions at EPCOT that can be reserved with a FastPass+.

Tier 1 Attractions (Choose 1):

  • Soarin'
  • Frozen Ever After
  • Test Track
  • Illuminations:  Reflections of Earth
Tier 2 Attractions (Choose 2):
  • Disney/ Pixar Short Film Festival
  • Journey into Imagination with Figment
  • Spaceship Earth
  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends
  • Epcot Character Spot
  • Mission:  SPACE Green
  • Mission:  SPACE Orange
  • Living with the Land

So, we have compiled a list of the top 5 FastPass+ picks at the EPCOT, check them out below!

5.  EPCOT Character Spot

Image result for epcot character spot walt disney world

This attraction in Future World is a great way to meet all of Mickey's Pals!  Generally you will meet with Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Minnie, and Mickey.  The lines can get long for this attraction since you can meet so many characters in one spot.  I generally recommend a FastPass+ for those families with small children.  The line is inside, so it's a great way to get out of the Florida sun, making it a great time to relax in the air conditioning.

4.  Spaceship Earth

This attraction has been around since the park opening!  The icon of the park, is a very old-school animitronics attraction that literally brings you to the top of the ball at the parks entrance.  Although the line usually moves, during the busier times, the wait times can get pretty long.

3.  Test Track

Image result for test track

Test Track is one of the more popular attractions at EPCOT and will take up your one Tier 1 Attraction for a FastPass+.  Although popular, Test Track offers a single rider line which moves pretty quickly.  So, if you're ok with splitting up your group, this is my recommendation instead of using a FastPass+.

2.  Frozen Ever After

Image result for frozen ever after

This is another Tier 1 Attraction.  Located in World Showcase in the Norway Pavilion, Frozen Ever After is a very popular ride taking you through various scenes in the movie Frozen.  We have seen wait times for this attraction reach 3 hours, thus having a FastPass+ is important.

1.  Soarin'

Image result for soarin around the world

Also another Tier 1 Attraction, Soarin' is located in the Land Pavilion in Future World, taking you on a trip around the world.  This is also a very popular ride, with wait times averaging over an hour, even with the addition of the 3rd theater.

Top FastPass+ Picks @ Disney's Magic Kingdom

When it comes to planning your magical Walt Disney World Vacation, your Disney specialized travel agent will ask you which FastPass+ Reservations you would like to make 60 days ahead of time!  Now, I know what you're thinking, how could you possibly know what your family will want to ride 2 months before you travel???

As we plan out your FastPass+ picks, the age group of your family comes into play here.  We want to ensure that your family can enjoy the attractions that they want to.  At the Magic Kingdom, there are no tiers at play (check out the blog posts on Disney's Hollywood Studios and EPCOT for more information on FastPass+ Tiers).  Without tiers, planning can be a struggle, but also can help to ensure that you get reservations for the top attractions!  There are currently 28 attractions at the Magic Kingdom to choose from, which can make it extremely difficult to decide.

So, we have compiled a list of the top 5 FastPass+ picks at the Magic Kingdom, check them out below!

1.  Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

This is Magic Kingdom's latest big-ticket item and continues to draw large crowds.  During the summer months, the wait time for this attraction can reach 90-120 minutes.  Being able to jump to the front of the line can save precious park time.

2. Peter Pan's Flight

This attraction continues to be a must-do for Disney families!  Since opening day, guests have been streaming in for a ride on the flying pirate ship and that continues today.  With the addition of a brand new interactive queue, waiting in the stand-by line has become a more enjoyable event when guests reach the nursery and can create their own shadows, watch Peter’s shadow or see Tinker Bell as she flies about the room moving objects and squeezing into tight spaces.  Again, stand-by lines can reach close to 2 hours during the busy months, so a FastPass+ can leave more time for visiting those favorite Disney Princesses.

3.  Space Mountain

Space Mountain continues to be a fan-favorite at Magic Kingdom.  Located in Tomorrowland, guests are whisked away to fly into the dark of space and whip around the stars.  Another interactive queue awaits guests, but thankfully, there are times when the stand-by line is definitely doable. There are, however, other times when you can expect the lines to be much longer, specifically during the afternoon times. If Space Mountain is your favorite, you can also plan on riding within the early hours of the day when the lines are shorter and then book your FastPass+ for later to ensure you can ride more than once.

4. Splash Mountain

I remember as a kid that I could watch the log-flumes plummet down the 5-story waterfall for hours!  Where you can easily walk onto this attraction during the cooler months (or late night during the summer), mid-day on those hotter days is a different story.  Many guests are looking to cool off and get soaked in the middle of the day, so a FastPass+ for that time is ideal.

Briar-brimmed pond at Splash Mountain

5. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

I always called this attraction the runaway train when I was younger (and occasionally still do)!  The wildest ride in the wilderness, and final mountain on the list, will often see long wait times, especially in the summer. This mountain is a great attraction to use a FastPass for especially if you are not able to get passes for attractions at the top of this list.

I would love to help you plan your next Disney Vacation. Send me an email at heathersmith@mickeyworldtravel.com
